Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with Mr. Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejon, Secretary General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party

The Secretary-General met today with Mr. Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejon, the Secretary General of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party in Madrid, Spain.

The Secretary-General and Mr. Sánchez discussed the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the need to translate the goals into national policies.

The Secretary-General welcomed Mr. Sánchez’s commitment to addressing climate change. He encouraged Mr. Sánchez to continue working with the Government of Spain to make further progress on the issue, in the lead up to the Climate Change Conference in Paris in December.

On the migrant and refugees crisis in the region, they discussed Spain’s role in addressing the challenge as well as the impact on the country. They also discussed violent extremism, Syria, Libya and other conflicts in Africa.
