Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary General of the Ibero-American General Secretariat

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Ms. Rebeca Grynspan, the Secretary General of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).  They discussed the upcoming Ibero-American Summit, which will take place in Colombia in November 2016 with a focus on youth, entrepreneurship and education.  

The Secretary-General expressed optimism about how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will contribute to laying a solid foundation for fighting poverty and inequality, while promoting justice.  He expressed certainty that 25 September, the opening of the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, would be a historic day.  

The Secretary-General and Ms. Grynspan highlighted how the Ibero-American region would have an important role to play in the implementation of the SDGs through 2030.
