Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Ms. Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Ms. Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway. The Secretary-General welcomed the establishment of a Commission on Financing Global Education, and said he looked forward to receiving its recommendations. He also thanked Prime Minister Solberg for Norway's important financial support to education and to addressing climate change.

The Secretary-General and Prime Minister Solberg also had an in-depth discussion on the negotiations on the upcoming post-2015 development agenda, including the means of implementation to be addressed at the upcoming Financing for Development Conference in Addis Ababa.

The two leaders agreed on the need to address the root causes of the current migration crises in the Mediterranean and the Andaman Sea by supporting sustainable development and political stability. The Secretary-General took this opportunity to thank Prime Minister Solberg for her personal involvement and leadership in advancing the work of the MDG Advocacy Group.

Finally, the Secretary-General and Prime Minister Solberg reviewed current international efforts to counter violent extremism, including the importance of mobilising civil society and youth.
