The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Sauli Niinistö, President of Finland.

The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for the strong partnership between the United Nations and Finland, thanking the country for its strong support for mediation efforts.

The Secretary-General and the President agreed on the importance of swift adoption and implementation of the post-2015 development agenda, with the Secretary-General emphasizing the importance of development funding.

The Secretary-General underscored the need to reach a universal, ambitious agreement on climate change in Paris in December.

They also discussed the situations in Ukraine, with the Secretary-General stressing the need for the commitments under the Minsk package of measures to be fully implemented and underlining that the crisis in the country cannot be resolved militarily.
