The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mrs. Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, on the margins of the meeting of the Group of 7.

He thanked the Chancellor for Germany’s strong support for sustainable development, calling on the country to continue its leadership role in delivering on the post-2015 agenda.

The Secretary-General also lauded Germany’s crucial role towards reaching a meaningful, universal agreement on climate change in Paris in December.

He stressed the importance of financing to meet the aspirations of the ambitious climate and sustainable development agendas.

The Secretary-General and the Chancellor also discussed the importance of global pandemic response preparedness.
