The Secretary-General met today with H.H. Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait.
The Secretary-General thanked the Amir for hosting the Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria and for his exemplary leadership in humanitarian causes.
The Secretary-General underlined that the international community will have to continue to provide generous humanitarian assistance to the Syrian refugees and internally displaced until they can return to their homes. He also highlighted the desperate plight of the Palestine refugees in the Yarmouk camp in Syria.
The Secretary-General briefed the Amir on his recent trip to Baghdad where he had met with the President, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of Council of Representatives, as well as other leaders.
The Secretary-General also underlined his growing concern at the situation in Yemen. He reiterated his responsibility as Secretary-General of the United Nations to try find a political solution to the conflict as soon as possible.
The Secretary-General invited the Amir to the upcoming General Assembly summit meeting on the Sustainable Development Goals.
