Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar; H.R.H. Prince Saud al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; H.E. Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Hamad al-Sabah, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait; H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain; H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates; H.E. Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, the Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman and Mr. Abullatif Zayani, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Secretary-General and the ministers discussed the situation in Yemen.

The Secretary-General told the ministers that he had listened very carefully by the statements by both His Majesty King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia and H.E. President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi Mansour of Yemen during the opening session of the Summit. The Secretary-General said he shared their concern about those who try to undermine the political process in Yemen. He expressed his strong support for a return to a viable and inclusive political process as soon as possible.
