Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of Italy

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of Italy.

The Secretary-General thanked the Prime Minister for Italy's strong support for the political and humanitarian work of the United Nations in Libya and Italy’s contribution to global efforts to address terrorism, including in Syria and Iraq. They also discussed the need to address the root causes of irregular migration and of terrorism.

The Secretary-General further expressed his gratitude for Italy's support to United Nations peacekeeping operations, especially in Lebanon.  They also discussed the situation in Ukraine.

The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister agreed that the Climate Change Summit to be held in Paris this December should deliver a meaningful, universal agreement.   The Secretary-General thanked the Prime Minister for Italy’s generous contribution to the Green Climate Fund. 

He looks forward to attending the upcoming Milan Expo 2015 that will contribute to efforts to fight food insecurity around the world.
