The Secretary-General met today in Conakry with H. E. Mr. Alpha Condé, President of Guinea. They discussed the devastating impact of the current Ebola outbreak on Guinea and its neighbours.
The Secretary-General commended the Government of Guinea for its strong and positive engagement with the international community in this first successful phase of mobilizing the infrastructure in Guinea against Ebola. He also praised the leadership and energy of President Condé.
The Secretary-General reiterated the dangers of complacency and made a renewed call for action, focusing on social mobilization and community engagement. He finally stressed that it was never too early to start planning for post-Ebola recovery, with the support of the United Nations.
