Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia

> The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia.
>
> The Secretary-General congratulated the President on his recent inauguration.  They exchanged views on the ASEAN-UN partnership.
>
> They also discussed their joint concerns regarding extremists groups operating in Africa, the Middle East and beyond.  The Secretary-General expressed his thanks to Indonesia for its participation on the advisory board of the UN’s Counter-Terrorism Centre and encouraged Indonesia to increase its support for the centre.
>
> The Secretary-General underscored that President Widodo and Indonesia had a very important role to play by exercising leadership in combating extremism in the Muslim world.
>
> The Secretary-General briefed the President on the current state of the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians.
>
> The Secretary-General also thanked Indonesia for its support to peacekeeping operations and briefed him on the recently announced High-Level Independent Panel on Peace Operations.
>
> Countries such as Indonesia have a very important role to play in combatting climate change, the Secretary-General stressed, especially in the run up to the upcoming meetings in Lima and Paris. He added that he looked forward to Indonesia submitting ambitious national targets before March of 2015.
