Note to correspondents: Update on the situation in the area of operation of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF)

The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) confirms that the Filipino forces formerly surrounded by armed elements at Positions 68 and 69 have relocated to an alternate site and are safe.

In addition, personnel from Observation Post 56 have relocated to a safer position as a precautionary measure.

Elsewhere in the area of operation, UNDOF troops remain on high alert and continue to carry out their mandated tasks.

The 44 Fijian peacekeepers forced from Position 27 on 28 August continue to be detained by armed elements. At this time, no additional information on their status or location has been established. The United Nations continues to actively seek their immediate and unconditional release.
