On 26 June 2014, the Secretary-General met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and Chairperson of the African Union, on the margins of the African Summit in Malabo.
The Secretary-General reiterated his commitment to strengthen the strategic partnership between the United Nations and the African Union, and to continue working together to resolve conflicts in Africa. The President and Secretary-General discussed cooperation between the two organizations in addressing the situation in Mali, Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria. They also discussed the piracy in the gulf of guinea and the situation in the Sahel.
