Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H. E. Mrs. Catherine Samba Panza, President of the Central African Republic

The Secretary-General met today with Catherine Samba Panza, Head of State of the Transition of the Central African Republic, to discuss the latest developments in her country, ahead of the transfer of authority from MISCA to MINUSCA scheduled for 15 September 2014.

The Secretary-General commended Ms. Samba Panza for her leadership of the transition, reiterated the full support of the United Nations to her efforts and encouraged her to launch the national dialogue in earnest, with a view to address some of the key challenges faced by the country, including with regard to the inclusiveness of the transition and the disarmament of the armed groups, in order to pave the way for the holding of the elections.

The Secretary-General commended the role played by the sub-region, in particular ECCAS and ECCAS Mediation, as well as the African Union, in support of the transition in the Central African Republic.
