Readout for the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Raul Castro Ruz, President of Cuba

The Secretary-General met with President Raul Castro of Cuba on the margins of the G77 and China Summit.

The Secretary-General commended Cuba for hosting the peace talks between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). The Secretary-General expressed the hope that, after decades, the conflict in Colombiacould end so that Latin America could become an even stronger region of peace.

The Secretary-General made a special plea to Cuba to continue its assistance to Haiti and to show leadership on climate change. President Castro confirmed Cuba’s historical commitment to Haiti, as well as Cuba’s commitment on climate change.
