Readout for the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Ollanta Humala, President of the Republic of Peru

The Secretary-General met with President Ollanta Humala of Peru on the margins of the G77 and China Summit. They discussed preparations for the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Framework Convention on Climate Change to be held in Peru, in December of this year.

Specifically, the Secretary-General asked President Humala to exercise his leadership to garner commitment for the drafting of a strong agreement. President Humala re-affirmed his personal commitment to ensuring the success of the COP and the readiness of Peru to support the United Nations on climate change.

The Secretary-General briefed the President on the preparations of the upcoming Climate Summit on 23 September in New York. He stressed that he expected world leaders to come to New York ready to announce bold actions and ambitious goals.
