The Secretary-General met today with Ms. Anne C. Richard, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State, Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration.
The Secretary-General welcomed the high-level participation of the United States at the Global Forum on Migration and Development. He also commended their leadership, together with the Philippines, in focusing attention and mobilizing action on the particular situation of migrants caught in countries in crisis.
The Secretary-General and Assistant Secretary of State Richard exchanged views on several of the world's most dire and complex humanitarian emergencies, namely those in Syria, South Sudan and the Central African Republic. They agreed on the imperative of maintaining international focus on the needs of affected populations, including urgent financial support to humanitarian and stabilization efforts.
