The Secretary-General met yesterday with President Enrique Peña Nieto of Mexico, following the opening session of the High Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation, in Mexico City.
The Secretary-General thanked the Mexican Government for hosting this international gathering and commended Mexico for its leadership and collaboration on global issues, such as climate change and indigenous rights.
The Secretary-General and President Peña Nieto discussed a range of important domestic and global issues, including the government’s determination to improve security within a framework of respect for human rights and reduce social inequity.
They also exchanged views on challenges related to migration and the world drug problem, in light of the coming United Nations General Assembly Special Session in 2016 on that subject.
