Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E Mr. Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary

The Secretary-General met today with H.E Mr. Viktor Orbán, Prime Minister of Hungary.  They discussed the Budapest Water Summit and its importance for addressing water and sanitation issues with global, broad-based participation.

The Secretary-General thanked Hungary for its support to a broad array of UN initiatives, particularly to peace operations. The Secretary-General encouraged Hungary to enhance its support to UN peacekeeping, including through the provision of key assets.

They also discussed Hungary's domestic agenda as well as economic developments in Europe. The Secretary-General encouraged Hungary to continue to engage with UN human rights mechanisms. Finally they exchanged views on the political, humanitarian and security situation in Syria and the urgent need for political solution to the conflict.
