Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Laurent Salvador Lamothe, Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and External Cooperation of the Republic of Haiti

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Laurent Salvador Lamothe, Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and External Cooperation of the Republic of Haiti.

They discussed the current situation in Haiti, including political developments, joint efforts to eradicate cholera and the relocation of internally displaced persons. The Secretary-General called on the Government of Haiti to continue working closely with his Special Representative, Sandra Honoré, on the strengthening of the Haitian National Police and the continued consolidation of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH).

The Secretary-General also expressed his concern about the continued delays in the holding of elections in Haiti. He underlined the need for credible and transparent elections to be held as soon as possible to ensure the continuity of the country’s democratic institutions.
