Readout of Secretary-General's meetings with Austrian leaders

The Secretary-General met today with the President, Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Austria in Vienna.

In his meeting with the President, H.E. Mr. Heinz Fischer, and the Chancellor, H.E. Mr. Werner Faymann, there was an extensive discussion focussed on Syria.

The Secretary-General briefed them on the work of the UN chemical weapons investigation team. He thanked them for Austria's strong support for the United Nations and his role in handling the crisis. The Secretary-General underscored the importance of giving diplomacy a chance and enabling the investigation team to finish their work.

In a separate meeting, the Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister, H.E. Michael Spindelegger, discussed in detail developments in Syria.
