The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Chung Hong-won, Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea. During his meeting with the Prime Minister, the Secretary-General commended the Republic of Korea’s (ROK) for its leadership and active role in the United Nations. He welcomed its contribution on sustainable development, green growth, climate change and peacekeeping, as well as women’s empowerment, conflict prevention, peacebuilding and many other areas.
The Secretary-General appreciated the ROK’s strong support for his Global Initiatives. The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister exchanged views on promoting the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the sustainable development goals.
The Secretary-General and the Prime Minister exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula. The Secretary-General commended the recent constructive efforts of the ROK Government to normalize the operations in the Kaesong Industrial Complex, as well as to provide humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable, in particular, children in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) regardless of the political situation.
