The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. John Kerry, the Secretary of State of the United States of America, on the margins of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa today.

They discussed a variety of topics including Syria, the Middle East Peace Process and developments in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Great Lakes region.

They discussed efforts to convene as early as possible an international conference on Syria to advance the political process and bring a swift end to the suffering of the Syrian people.

On the Great Lakes region, the Secretary-General briefed the Secretary of State on his recent visit to Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.
