The Secretary-General spoke by telephone with the Foreign Minister of the People´s Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, today. He congratulated the Minister on his recent appointment.

The Secretary-General and the Minister discussed recent developments on the Korean Peninsula and shared deep concern about the escalating tensions there.

The Secretary-General said he was committed to doing whatever he could to de-escalate tensions. He said he was confident that the Chinese leadership would also do its best to help calm the situation and help Pyongyang to reverse course.
