Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Michel Roger, Minister of State and Chief of Government of the Principality of Monaco, and H.E. Mr. José Badia, Minister for Foreign Affairs

Monaco, 4 April 2013

The Secretary-General met today with the Minister of State and Chief of Government of the Principality of Monaco, H.E. Mr. Michel Roger, and the Minister for Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. José Badia.

During their meeting, the Secretary-General thanked the Ministers for Monaco’s ongoing support to the work of the United Nations. They discussed, in particular, Monaco’s contributions to sustainable development, the protection of women and children’s rights, and education, including through its active support to the UNESC0 initiative, "Education for All".

The Secretary-General took note of Monaco's strong commitment to international justice, as one the first signatories of the Rome Statute establishing the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Prime Minister assured the Secretary-General of Monaco's continuing full collaboration with the ICC.

They also discussed the participation of the Principality of Monaco in the Forum of Small States (FOSS) and the Global Governance Group (3G) in which it supports better coordination between the work of the G20 and the UN.

Finally, they exchanged views on the on-going crises in Syria and Mali, underscoring the urgency of doing more to also address the growing humanitarian needs arising from those crises.
