Readout of the Secretary-General’s telephone call to H.E. Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, President-elect of the Republic of Cyprus

The Secretary-General placed a telephone call today to H.E. Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, President-elect of the Republic of Cyprus, to congratulate him on his victory in the second round of the presidential election.  The Secretary-General wished the President-elect every success in addressing the significant economic challenges facing his country.  He also expressed the hope that full-fledged negotiations to achieve a comprehensive settlement for the reunification of Cyprus would resume as quickly as possible and reiterated the United Nations’ and his own personal readiness to support him and the Turkish Cypriot leader in that regard.
