Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with Dr. Nabil Elaraby, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States

The Secretary-General met today with Dr. Nabil Elaraby, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.

They discussed the crisis in Syria and reiterated their strong support for Lakhdar Brahimi, the Joint Special Representative of the United Nations and the League of Arab States. They also noted with concern the dire humanitarian situation in Syria, ahead of tomorrow's Donors’ Conference in Kuwait.

The Secretaries-General emphasized the need for an immediate end to the bloodshed and the suffering of the people of Syria. They emphasized the effects of the dangerous spill-over of the crisis in neighbouring countries, in particular the plight of the Syrian refugees.

They also discussed the need to revitalize the Middle East Peace Process and, in this regard, they conferred on the dire situation of Palestinian refugees.
