Note to correspondents in response to questions on Lebanon

The Secretary-General is concerned by the tensions in Lebanon in recent days and calls on all parties to make every effort to restore calm.   He regrets the loss of life and extends his condolences to the families of those who have died.

The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Derek Plumbly, is engaged on the ground, encouraging all concerned to work for sustained calm and stability in the country.

The Secretary-General stresses the need for Lebanon’s continuing stability.  He encourages all Lebanese parties to strengthen their efforts to date to overcome any emerging challenges on the ground.
