The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Andrew Mitchell, the Secretary of State for International Development of the United Kingdom.

The Secretary-General reiterated his thanks to the United Kingdom for its quick and generous response to crises requiring international assistance. He said he was also heartened that the UK Government had raised official development assistance last year despite public spending cuts. He said this showed it was possible to deliver on aid promises despite the crises. The Secretary-General also thanked the United Kingdom for its contribution for preventive diplomacy.

They discussed the Millennium Development Goals and the post-2015 development agenda as well as Myanmar and the humanitarian aspects of Somalia and Syria.
