The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Nabil Elaraby, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
The Secretary-General said last week’s General Assembly resolution was a significant achievement and the Syrian authorities should listen to its resounding message.
The two leaders discussed the way forward in implementing the resolution, including the appointment of a Special Envoy.
The Secretary-General said he remained seriously concerned about the humanitarian consequences of the violence. He briefed Secretary-General Elaraby on his plan to send Valerie Amos, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, to assess the humanitarian situation in Syria and renew the urgent call for humanitarian access. He said the priority remained for all violence to stop immediately.
