The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Goodluck Jonathan, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Secretary-General assured the President of the readiness of the United Nations to support his Government in addressing challenges facing his country. The Secretary-General and the President exchanged views on how best to enhance efforts to eradicate piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. The Secretary-General and the President also discussed the ongoing efforts to consolidate peace in Côte d'Ivoire and Liberia.
