Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E. Mr. Mahamadou Issoufou President of the Republic of Niger, on the margins of the 66th session of the United nations General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Mahamadou Issoufou, President of the Republic of Niger, on the margins of the general debate of the 66th session of the General Assembly. The Secretary-General encouraged the President to pursue his efforts at consolidating democratic governance, fighting against corruption and organized crime, protecting human rights as well as accelerating socio-economic development. The Secretary-General and the President also exchanged views on the impact of the crisis in Libya on the situation in Sahel countries. The Secretary-General assured the President of the United Nations support in addressing these challenges.
