The Secretary-General welcomes the full assumption today by the Government of Liberia of its national security responsibilities from the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), in accordance with Security Council resolution 2239 (2015).
The Secretary-General pays tribute to the determination of the people and the Government of Liberia to work towards lasting peace after the end of the conflict that led to the deployment of UNMIL in October 2003. The continuing improvement in the security and stability of Liberia has enabled the United Nations to enter the final stage of its peacekeeping efforts in the country.
The Secretary-General recognizes the important role played by partners, in particular the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union and the Mano River Union, in supporting the consolidation of peace, security and stability in Liberia, and in overcoming the recent Ebola outbreak. He further welcomes the contributions from troop- and police-contributing countries, as well as bilateral partners and multilateral organisations, which facilitated the considerable achievements made by UNMIL.
The Secretary-General calls on all partners to stay engaged and to continue assisting the Government of Liberia to consolidate peace. The timely conclusion of the security transition is a major benchmark in the peace process and a testament to the hard work of the Liberian people to create a nation built on peace, stability, human rights, democracy and rule of law.

Déclaration attribuable au Porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur le Libéria
Le Secrétaire général se félicite de la prise en charge complète à partir de ce jour par le gouvernement du Liberia de l'ensemble des compétences en matière de sécurité exercées jusque-là par la Mission des Nations Unies au Libéria (MINUL), conformément à la Résolution 2239 (2015) du Conseil de sécurité.
Le Secrétaire général salue la détermination du peuple et du Gouvernement du Libéria à œuvrer pour une paix durable après la fin du conflit qui a conduit au déploiement de la MINUL en octobre 2003. L’amélioration continue de la sécurité et la stabilité au Libéria a permis aux Nations Unies d'entrer dans la phase finale de leurs efforts en matière de maintien de la paix dans le pays.
Le Secrétaire général reconnaît le rôle important joué par les partenaires, en particulier la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest, l’Union africaine et l’Union du fleuve Mano, en soutien à la consolidation de la paix, la sécurité et la stabilité au Libéria, ainsi que pour faire face à la récente épidémie d'Ebola. Il se félicite de la contribution importante des pays fournisseurs de troupes et de police, ainsi que celle des partenaires bilatéraux et multilatéraux qui ont facilité les progrès considérables réalisés par la MINUL.
Le Secrétaire général appelle tous les partenaires à rester engagés et à continuer de soutenir le Gouvernement libérien dans ses efforts de consolidation de la paix. La conclusion de la transition sécuritaire constitue une étape majeure dans le processus de paix et témoigne du travail acharné du peuple libérien pour créer une nation fondée sur la paix, la stabilité, la démocratie et l’état de droit.
