The Secretary-General strongly condemns the rebellion by elements of the Malian armed forces who have announced the dissolution of government institutions and the suspension of the Constitution.  He calls on those responsible to refrain from any actions that could increase violence and further destabilize the country. The Secretary-General calls for the immediate restoration of constitutional rule in Mali.  The United Nations is ready to engage with all relevant stakeholders, including the leaders in the sub-region and ECOWAS toward this end, so as to preserve the democratic gains made by Mali over the past two decades.

Déclaration attribuable au Porte-parole du Secrétaire général sur le Mali

Le Secrétaire général condamne fermement la rébellion menée par des éléments des forces armées maliennes qui ont annoncé la dissolution des institutions gouvernementales et la suspension de la Constitution. Il enjoint les éléments impliqués à s'abstenir de toutes actions susceptibles d’accroître la violence et de déstabiliser davantage le pays. Le Secrétaire général appelle à la restauration immédiate de l’ordre constitutionnel au Mali. Les Nations Unies sont prêtes à dialoguer avec toutes les parties prenantes concernées, y compris les dirigeants de la sous-région et la CEDEAO à cette fin pour préserver les acquis démocratiques réalisés par le Mali ces vingt dernières années.
