The Secretary-General met with H.E. Mr. Hery Rajaonarimampianina, President of the Republic of Madagascar. The Secretary-General commended the Malagasy Government and people for the progress achieved since the completion of the transition. He encouraged continued dialogue and national reconciliation.

They also discussed the human rights and humanitarian situation in the country, the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda, Climate Change challenges, and the internal political situation as well as peacebuilding efforts in Madagascar.

The Secretary-General and the President further exchanged views on Madagascar’s participation in the World Humanitarian Summit and the High-Level Summit on refugees and migrants. The Secretary-General underscored the importance of prevention against violent extremism.

Le Secrétaire général a rencontré Son Excellence M. Hery Rajaonarimampianina, Président de la République de Madagascar. Le Secrétaire général a félicité le Gouvernement et le peuple malgache pour les progrès réalisés depuis la fin de la transition. Il a appelé à davantage de dialogue et à la réconciliation dans le pays.

Ils ont également discuté de la situation des droits de l’homme et humanitaire dans le pays, la mise en œuvre des objectifs de développement durable, et des questions liées au changement climatique. Ils ont également évoqué la situation politique interne et des efforts de consolidation de la paix à Madagascar.

Le Secrétaire général et le Président ont également échangé sur la participation de Madagascar au Sommet Humanitaire Mondial et au Sommet de Haut niveau sur les réfugiés et les migrants. Le Secrétaire général a souligné l’importance de la prévention contre la montée de l’extrémisme violent.
