Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Charles Flanagan, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Charles Flanagan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland.  The Secretary-General congratulated Ireland on its leadership role in the elaboration of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Ireland’s active support to UN peacekeeping was also discussed.

The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed the increased movement of migrants and refugees towards Europe and preparations for the World Humanitarian Summit to be held in Istanbul in May 2016. In this context, the Secretary-General commended Ireland for its active humanitarian efforts.
