The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Ms. Niermala S. Badrising, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Suriname.
The Secretary-General underscored the importance of national ownership of the Sustainable Development Goals and urged that they be incorporated into domestic legislation and development plans.
The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed the international climate change agenda and the need for to adopt a universal agreement in Paris next December.
They also discussed Surinam’s commitment to a green and people-centred development agenda.
The Secretary-General expressed his congratulations on the large number of women members of Suriname’s National Assembly and the President’s commitment to youth.
