Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. François Hollande, President of the French Republic

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. François Hollande, President of the French Republic. 

They agreed on the fundamental importance of reaching international agreement on climate change. The two leaders underlined the need for very urgent measures to be taken to combat the Ebola virus. The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation to France for its intervention in the Central African Republic and Mali. The two leaders were in strong agreement on the need for collective action to stabilize Libya. The Secretary-General appreciated the leadership shown by President Hollande on several important issues related to international peace and security, such as Iraq.

The Secretary-General thanked President Hollande for recently hosting the International Conference on Peace and Security in Iraq. He expressed his appreciation for France’s assistance in addressing the humanitarian crises in Iraq and elsewhere. He also welcomed France’s commitment to bolster regional stability by assisting the Lebanese Armed Forces.  Finally, they exchanged views on the situations in Ukraine and Libya.
