The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Nicolai Wammen, Defence Minister of Denmark. On this occasion, the Secretary-General expressed his sincere appreciation for the longstanding and sound relationship between the United Nations and Denmark. He also thanked the Danish Government for its support to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
The Secretary-General conveyed his thanks to the Minister for Denmark's support to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), which is a significant boost to the Mission’s mobility and capacity to develop important operational awareness. The Secretary-General expressed the hope that Denmark could consider providing critical specialist assets to the Mission.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General and Mr. Nicolai Wammen also discussed a number of other key issues, including the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) and the situation in Syria. The Secretary-General indicated that a number of security measures had been taken for the safety of United Nations civilian and military personnel in Syria.
