The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Saad-Eddine El Othmani, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco.
The Secretary-General encouraged the parties to redouble their efforts to find a compromise on the Western Sahara issue, and underlined his support for his Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross.
He welcomed the continued cooperation by Morocco to the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and underlined the importance of full freedom of movement and access to all personnel.
The Secretary-General welcomed Morocco’s cooperation with the special procedures of the Human Rights Council.
The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister also discussed the situation in Syria, Mali, the wider Sahel and Guinea-Bissau.
