Readout of the Secretary-General's meeting with H.E. Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania

The Secretary-General met today with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H. E. Mr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.

The Secretary-General expressed appreciation for Tanzania’s contribution to the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). In this regard, the Secretary-General and the President both expressed regret for Tanzania’s losses and discussed the capacity of the Force Intervention Brigade. They exchanged views on relations between Tanzania and its neighbours and on Tanzania’s participation in the Climate Change Summit to take place next year. The Secretary-General also raised the issue of acid attacks in Zanzibar and the situation of persons with albinism in the country.
