Readout of the Secretary-General’s meeting with H.E. Mr. Mohamed Bazoum, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Niger, on the margins of the 67th United Nations General Assembly

The Secretary-General met today with Foreign Minister Mohamed Bazoum of Niger on the margins of the 67th session of the General Assembly.

The Secretary-General commended the Government of Niger for the measures taken to curtail corruption and restore good governance in the country. The Secretary-General expressed concern about food insecurity and severe climatic conditions in the country, while assuring the Foreign Minister of the United Nations’ support to Niger’s ongoing efforts to address these issues in a sustainable manner. The impact of the Sahel crisis on Niger was also discussed.
