The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Mr. Markos Kyprianou, the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, on the margins of the Fourth United Nations Conference on Least Developed Countries.

The Secretary-General and the Foreign Minister discussed the Cyprus negotiations.

The Secretary-General said both communities would need to work in a spirit of compromise and with a longer-term vision to reach a mutually acceptable comprehensive solution. The Secretary-General and the Minister discussed the need for accelerated progress in the negotiations.

They also discussed developments in Syria, Libya and Egypt.
