Regional Meetings
Latin America and Caribbean
Three regional meetings have been held in Latin
America and the Caribbean and a 4th meeting is now being
organized.
The first regional meeting held in Buenos Aires,
Argentina 24-25 April 2003 resulted in a
report that includes a preliminary platform of action for
the region to promote sustainable consumption and production.
The meeting was hosted by the government of Argentina in
cooperation with DESA's
Division for Sustainable Development and
UNEP.
The second regional meeting was held in Managua,
Nicaragua on 15-16 October 2003. The outcomes of the meeting
include a
regional platform of action on sustainable consumption and
production as well as a proposal for the establishment of a
Regional Council of Government Experts on Sustainable
Consumption and Production.
The outcomes of the Nicaragua meeting were
presented and endorsed by the
Forum of Environment Ministers of Latin America and the
Caribbean in their XIV meeting held in Panama City, Panama
in November 2003.
The third regional meeting was held in Managua, Nicaragua on
August 3-5 2005.
The fourth
regional meeting will be held from 18-19 October 2007 in Sao
Paulo, Brazil.
