10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production: 
The Marrakech  Process

              
Fourth Regional Expert Meeting in Latin American and the Caribbean Region
Sao Paulo, Brazil, 18-19 October 2007

The Latin American and the Caribbean region has been actively engaged in the process of promoting and implementing sustainable consumption and production (SCP). In order to continue the regional work on SCP, UNDESA and UNEP organized the 4th Regional Expert Meeting on the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (Marrakech Process), hosted by Brazil and held in Sao Paolo, Brazil, from 18-19 October 2007.   

The main objectives of the meeting were to: 

i.      Review, evaluate and strengthen the agreed regional strategy on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP); 

ii.    Strengthen the Regional Council of Government Experts on SCP;

iii.   Build more cooperation between the region and the Marrakech Task Forces, and other stakeholders such as development agencies, business and NGOs;

iv.  Provide regional inputs to the elaboration of the 10-year framework of programmes on SCP; and

v.    Prepare a report to be presented to the next meeting of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean.
 

The meeting convened experts from the region in government agencies concerned with policies to promote sustainable consumption and production, as well as a select group of experts from major groups, including business and industry, NGOs, technical and scientific communities, trade unions, local authorities among others.
