The theme of the 2017 International Day of Forests celebration is “Forests and Energy” to increase awareness of forest-energy interconnections and strengthen engagement between forest and energy practitioners and policymakers. The theme is of particular relevance to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and SDG15 and SDG7 in particular.
The 2017 UNHQ event will be comprised of an opening session followed by a panel discussion on “Growing Forests harness Energy for the Future” and a general discussion on the theme “Forests and energy are essential for the 2030 Agenda”.
Every year, the Forum secretariat holds a special event to celebrate the International Day of Forests at United Nations Headquarters in New York which attract participation from representatives of Member States, regional organizations, members of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests and non-governmental organizations. The special event is also webcast live by United Nations Web TV.
