15 young women and men representatives of youth organizations will meet renowned professional cartoonists from 20 to 22 July 2016 at la Maison de la Presse in Tangier, Morocco, around a workshop on editorial cartooning and youth caricatures.
The agenda of the workshop, organized as part of NET-MED Youth activities, is rich and serves as an original platform where youth and cartoonists would join efforts and ideas to organize a cartoon exhibit, in fall 2017, that showcases Moroccan youth issues, challenges and aspirations.
Using critical analysis and a touch of humor, the exhibit will contribute to raising awareness among the general public on youth issues at the levels of education; health; civic participation; freedom of expression; and access to culture, information and employment.
This experience aims at supporting youth organizations in their efforts to promote civic engagement, democracy and human rights; and at encouraging them to use other forms expression and tools to establish dialogue with other youth, institutions, decision-makers, media and the general public.
The workshop is organized by NET-MED Youth, in collaboration with Cartooning for Peace, Moroccan Cartoon Center and la Maison de la Presse in Tangier. It is inspired by “Draw me the Mediterranean”, an exhibit of Cartooning for Peace that aims at offering through editorial cartooning the keys to read and comprehend major issues in the Mediterranean basin, such as freedom of expression, borders, migration, the environment, youth challenges and many more.
*NET-MED Youth is a project implemented by UNESCO and funded by the European Union. Through its Media axis, it aims at raising awareness and organizing advocacy campaigns to promote a better representation of youth in the media and to make their voices heard when they express their issues, challenges, ambitions and creativity.
