The Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth (OSGEY) has released a progress report covering the work and achievements of the Office during the period February 2013 to February 2016.
The report summarizes the progress made by OSGEY since its establishment towards implementing the Office’s work-plan. The work-plan corresponds to the growing need for the United Nations to elevate the global youth agenda, increase awareness of youth issues and contribute to the acceleration of a global response that seeks to address the development needs and safeguard the rights of the largest generation of young people that the world has ever known.
The report presents progress and achievements per the four key pillars that underpin the Office’s work-plan: participation, partnerships, harmonization and advocacy. It also offers the progress made on key thematic focus areas that cut across these pillars, such as Youth and the Sustainable Development Agenda; the World Programme of Action for Youth; Youth, Peace and Security; Education and Civic Participation; Decent Jobs for Youth; Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Young Women and Girls; Disaster Risk Reduction, Humanitarian Response and Climate Change.
The report offers an overview of the main activities implemented, notes the results achieved to date, and reflects on the way forward for the Office to continue to carry out its important mandate.
Additionally, the report details the exponential increase of OSGEY’s engagement in various meetings, forums, conferences, and High-Level events held at all levels, a testament to the increased recognition of the need to ensure that youth issues feature and are taken into account in a wide range of agendas and frameworks.
