From UN WOMEN Asia Pacific: Chinese Students learn to use social media to prevent Gender-Based Violence.
Beijing, China – Fifty peer educators from the Beijing Royal School (BRS) in China joined a training on “Using Social Media to Promote Gender Equality and Prevent Gender Based Violence”, which makes part of the programme “Peer Leadership for Healthy Relationships” implemented by the school in collaboration with UN Women China.

Mr. Wang Guangfa, BRS Principal, called upon the girls and boys to become leaders in the advocacy efforts for greater gender equality while Ms. Julia Broussard, UN Women China Country Programme Manager, encouraged them to join the “Orange the World” Campaign and to spread positive messages on ending violence against women to their peers.
Local and international experts from UN Women, the Beijing Normal University, Equality (a Chinese NGO working on women’s empowerment) and the China Communications University brainstormed and discussed together with the students on a diverse range of topics including gender equality, power structures, gender biases, and ways to build healthy relationships with mutual respect.
The peer educators pledged to become “Change Makers” who will promote gender equality and fight to end violence against women and girls in their daily lives.
