At the invitation of the Government of Malaysia, the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, arrived in Malaysia for his first official visit to the country. He is scheduled to speak at the ASEAN Young Leaders Summit and hold a series of meetings with government officials and youth organizations.

The 1st ASEAN Young Leaders Summit is organized in Kuala Lumpur under the theme “Maximizing Young Leaders Potential Towards One ASEAN Community” and is held in conjunction with the 27th ASEAN Summit where the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is expected to attend.

 

“I look forward to meeting with young leaders of the ASEAN Community and with youth representatives from Malaysia to discuss ways to activate and empower their roles in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals”, Alhendawi said.

The Youth Envoy’s address to the summit will focus on “Youth Leadership: Making Global Impact” and will engage in discussion with young leaders from the ASEAN community focused on their roles in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals as well as the challenges and opportunities facing the youth of the ASEAN.

During the 3-day visit, Alhendawi will also meet with youth groups and students at events organized by the Government of Malaysia and the UN Country Team.
