Launching the report “Global Employment Trends for Youth: Scaling up investment in decent jobs for youth”, a briefing was co-organized Wed., 14 of October, by the Permanent Missions of Morocco and Spain and the International Labour Organization.

The UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, moderated the gathering of policymakers, youth participants, and civil society, to learn from, and discuss, the new report on Youth employment from the ILO.

Mr Ignacio Díaz de la Guardia, Minister Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Spain, and Mr Tarik Iziraren, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco, spoke of the state of youth unemployment around the world and of the importance for robust and committed youth employment strategies moving forward.

Azita Berar Awad, the Director of the Employment Policy Department of the ILO, briefed the audience on the major findings and important take-aways from the new 2015 report.

Ms. Awad drove home the important message that investing in youth is not support, or charity, but rather a smart investment that works.

Ahmad Alhendawi, the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, spoke about the need to see the real, human element, of the ILO’s report on Global Employment Trends for Youth:
